There is something so classic about a wedding set against the backdrop of an old historic home. Maybe it’s the blending of the past with the present, a new beginning starting on a foundation that’s been around for centuries. Or maybe it’s the often large front porch and spacious grounds that provide the perfect setting for an outdoor reception. Whatever it is, it Works. Every. Time.
So, needless to say, when I was invited to tour ‘The Wilson House’, a gorgeous home first built in 1895, I was really excited! The Wilson House and its accompanying land passed through only three owners in its long history before it was sold to the city of Ridgetop for use as a park and historic site in 2006. The home is situated on 24 acres of rolling hills and tall trees with plenty of open space as well.
Recently, the city of Ridgetop has begun opening up the house and the surrounding park for weddings, receptions and other special events. When I heard about that, I knew I had to get over there as soon as possible! Sherri Jackson, The Wilson House Hostess, is the absolute sweetest lady ever! I really had the best time walking the grounds and touring the house with her. She very kindly opened up the rooms to me, let me ask plenty of questions and take as many pictures as I liked and after seeing everything, I have to say I am impressed and excited for Nashville brides to have this beautiful new venue at their fingertips!
The house itself is an old southern colonial style mansion with plenty of open rooms that would work perfectly for a small intimate indoor ceremony or as Sherri pointed out, they can be used to hold food stations/buffets for an outdoor reception. The main room on the ground floor has two entries from outside, which means guests could easily navigate from the food to the party without disrupting the flow of people. The house also include a bride’s and groom’s room, so getting ready for the big day is super easy and relaxed! The large park surrounding the house would make a great space for an outdoor wedding or reception. Not only does it include a sweet backyard flower garden, there’s also room for a reception tent, ample parking and then of course there’s the natural beauty of the place itself!
Tours of the home are available April – October on Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30pm. For any bride looking for a location with a little history and plenty of space, Ridgetop Station Park and The Wilson House would be perfect! A big thanks to Sherri Jackson and the city of Ridgetop for letting me stop by and check everything out – i loved it!!
